A needle roller bearing is a roller bearing with cylindrical rollers that are thin and long relative to their diameter. These rollers are called needles: roller diameter D ≤ 5 mm and L/D ≥ 2.5, where L is the roller length.
Despite the small cross-section, the bearing has a high load capacity. Because the needles are so slender, it is radially compact: for the same bore and load capacity as another bearing type it has the smallest outside diameter, which makes it the choice for supports where radial mounting space is limited.
